SETTLE IN CANADA

Permanent residency in Canada (also referred to as landed immigrant status) allows an individual the freedom to live, work and travel freely in Canada.

Canada has a thriving market and is a very welcoming country to immigrants, it’s no wonder so many people are drawn to this beautiful country. There are many benefits for migrants and their families, including an excellent healthcare and education system.

There are a few different routes to permanent residency. Many people begin their migration to Canada as a student or temporary worker and qualify for further visas from there; however there are options to begin your process towards permanent residency from other types of temporary visas.

If you are thinking about making the move to Canada, either temporarily or on a permanent basis, Universal Studies & Immigration is here to assist you with the process and guide you through the daunting paperwork involved.

From January 1, 2015, the Government of Canada has implemented the Express Entry Immigration system for those who qualify. Express Entry is a simplified, fast and efficient immigration selection system offering permanent residence to qualified skilled workers to Canada.

It applies to the following economic class programs:

    •  Federal skilled worker
    • Canadian experience class
    •  Federal skilled trades
    •  Provincial nominees

Express Entry allows you to immigrate to Canada in approximately 6 months. A job offer will help significantly but it is not compulsory. Under Express Entry, Federal Skilled Workers across 347 eligible occupations who meet minimum eligibility criteria can submit an Expression of Interest Profile to the Express Entry Pool.

As of May 2021, the minimum number of points needed to qualify for Express Entry is 67.

There is an extensive list of eligible federal skilled worker occupations, if you have any questions about yours or would like advice or information on how to apply, please contact us.

Canada offers a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which actively seeks qualified immigrants to fill labour market shortages or create business opportunities in a specific province or territory. Although you must commit to the specific province you apply to, this will offer you the ability to live, work, travel and bring dependants to live
in Canada as a permanent resident.

Each province in Canada has its own immigration needs and requirements. Some are seeking more students and business people; others have a need for more skilled/semi-skilled workers.

To be considered for the Provincial Nominee Program you must:

    • Apply to the province or territory for nomination (under the appropriate express or non-express entry stream).
    •  Meet eligibility requirements set by the province that nominates you.

Once you are nominated, you must submit an application for permanent residence to Canada. This will include passing a medical exam and police check (which you must do regardless of how you apply for PR in Canada).
